Students from the Wharton community recently showcased their research at the Hockey Analytics & League Operations (HALO) Conference, hosted by the Colorado Avalanche. Among the finalists, Trey Elder (University of Pennsylvania) presented PRESS: A Player-Level Forechecking Metric, co-authored with Jonathan Pipping, introducing a novel approach to measuring forechecking success using large-scale game data.

The work, which analyzes more than 28,000 forechecks, drew strong interest from NHL analytics professionals and was featured in The Denver Post (subscription may be required), highlighting its alignment with current industry research.
